Setting Off

Well the start off our trip did not go as well as hoped. First problem was torrential rain on the M4 but then tragedy struck 3 miles from Dover when we were involved in a multi vehicle pile up. Fortunately we stopped without incident behind the first crash and, while filtering forward through the stationary traffic for safety, heard the thuds of two more vehicles crashing into the back of the queue. Two people were seriously injured & cut out of their car by the emergency services. We think one may have died.

We ended up missing our ferry by several hours and hence having to buy new ferry tickets as we'd taken the chance on cheap non transferable tickets. This led to the ridiculous situation of Mr Mogs ringing our son to buy tickets on line, as they were half the price of those we could get at the terminal! The Channel crossing was uneventful as was the ensuing ride by motorway to reach our first planned stop. Being on holiday we had to get lost but this only involved going around the same roundabout three times so not too much of a diversion and we arrived at the hotel about 11.00pm
