Its very frustrating as it has a record of our last bike trips as well as our tours in Wotan, the motorhome. We're now living in Australia and will shortly be setting off for a month or so to explore inland NSW in our new van, Ruby. We'll be posting on Facebook, which is great for photo's but I thought it might be nice to write a bit here too. watch this space!

I think I may as well rename this blog Emilia as she's all you're going to be hearing about for a while!. She is delightful although I haven't seen her with her eyes open since the day she was born! She sleeps....and sleeps...and sleeps! We spent three hours with her on Tuesday afternoon and she didn't wake the whole time! It gave me plenty of opportunity to take some more photos so there's a few below. Other than that life has been very quiet. The only news is that we have decided to get ourselves a puppy but it will have to wait until after we've been to Silverstone and Stratford in June. We've decided on a cocker spaniel and are busy researching breeders, training methods , necessities etc. I think we're all getting broody!
Oh dear, a whole month since I last posted. Well, I've something to write about now as today we became grandparents! Mel and Huw have a beautiful baby girl, called Emilia, born this afternoon and weighing 6lb 13oz or there abouts. I was very privileged to have been asked to join them for the delivery although I nearly missed it as things happened very quickly at the end! Mum and baby are doing fine and curently hoping that the doctor will check Emilia over so they can go home tonight. Mia has been to visit and is thrilled with her new sister. So here's more than a few photos taken in the delivery room when she was about half an hour old.
I'm also getting back my photographic mojo. I have rather a lot of photos on the computer to sort through, which is a bit of a dampner. I really need to organise both the Australian and Maldives photos both of which are in separate Lightroom catalogues that I've got to work out how to combine. Anyhow I'm starting and will post some Maldives photos shortly

Today, while Ian was having his guitar lesson I went for a stroll at Forest Farm. It was very quiet there and I was able to put out some birdseed and stand and watch without disturbance. I took some photos, the first non holiday photos since finishing Elvie's Year. The water rail was my highlight. these are very shy birds and you don't usually see them this close to the path. Interestingly after they'd gone I played their calls on my iPhone bird app and they reappeared! I'll have to try that again! Best spot of the morning though were two water voles. I've never ever seen them in the wild before but sadly didn''t manage to get a photo.
We returned to the YP late afternoon to shower & change and then returned to the island in the dark for the weekly BBQ.

YouTube Video
The crew had worked hard to set out tables (with table cloths) lights, bar and BBQ and had built a very impressive sand turtle surrounded by candles. After the usual good food it was time for games. We've rather lost the art of party games at home. It's a shame, we had a hilarious time, helped in part by the rampant cheating that went on! The tug of war was extremely strenuous but a good way of getting nearly everyone involved

On Saturday we returned again and this time LB & I snorkelled the outside of the reef. This was the best snorkelling so far with beautiful corals we'd not previously seen and lots of fish.

YouTube Video
In the afternoon we travelled to Mahibadou, a local island. A & B went ashore to do some shopping but forgot their money! They were entertained by the captain in a local cafe instead. LB & I had. A restful afternoon on board. In the evening two of the crew took B, LB and a couple of others fishing in a small boat with only the light of a torch to guide them. Only one fish was caught, but what a whoppa! It was a 20kg jack, caught by William, the Glaswegian.
Sunday morning was spent on board although most went to a sandbank. After a hectic few days it's nice to chill a bit. In the afternoon we arrived at Male and did a bit of shopping there. Before dinner Simon treated us to a poetry reading of some of his more humorous poems, which was a nice change. Maldivian evening saw most of the men dressed up in their sarongs with only the odd slippage! The food was excellent, interesting and mostly fishy! The fish soup looked like water with a few chunks of tuna in but was so tasty. I don't know how they got it so clear. LB & I had an early night for once.
Now it's Monday and changeover day. A lot of people have left, there's just a skeleton crew on board and many of the remaining passengers have paid for the optional trip to a nearby island. We're still lazing on the boat with one mother couple, Russ &Claire. In fact everyone has gone for an afternoon nap and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet.
Elvie
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-86797220184154646122012-01-23T07:39:00.012+00:002012-02-06T10:19:04.786+00:00TheluveligaaThursday
Yesterday we had a whole day on Meerufenfushi, returning to the Yasawa Princess for lunch. The snorkelling was excellent, particularly outside the reef, and A & B made progress and saw more fish too within the lagoon. the evening was enlivened by a fishing trip on the Dhoni where I caught a nice sized red snapper.

Just now we're anchored off Theluveligaa, having spent the afternoon quietly motoring south from Alikoy sandbank. There was good snorkelling there but a bit of a current outside of the reef made it quite testing. I made several runs against the current then drifting back to the channel and got some good photos. LB chilled on the beach with A & B. We were impressed by the arrival of the caretaker in his dhoni. Once ashore he busied himself raking the island but obligingly stopped to pose for a photo.

Tonight all had a good time at the Captains Dinner. He said a few words, we had a good meal and then the dancing started. The crew were particularly keen dancers and it was odd having more men than women on the dance floor. B entertained us greatly with his pole dancing!
The final drama was provided by Tim, our avid fisherman. The others went to bed just before me and as I was following them noticed some excitement on the rear deck. Tim had hooked a very big fish. Three quarters of an hour later after a lot of struggling, the line broke! it was nearly 1.00 when I got to bed
This morning we had a stroll around Sutton around Sutton Park with A & B. This is a wonderful extensive area of wood and heathland just across the road from their house. It was quite strange to look at the frozen lake there and to think in 24 hours we'll be enjoying temperatures of 30. Here's a few photos for illustration.
Nothing interesting to report on this past week but today we have the suitcases packed and are ready to go again. We've booked a two week cruise on the Yasawa Princess in the Maldives, the same trip we did three years ago. This time we're going with A & B and this afternoon are driving up to their house in Birmingham. We'll stay with them overnight and then the four of us are flying from Birmingham Airport on Sunday evening. Last time we were there I managed a few posts and photos from my phone although internet access there is patchy. With a better phone I'm hoping to post more photos as we go along and then there'll be a catch up session when we get home. It's a beautiful place & I can't wait to get back there!Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-10407643582516634262012-01-07T17:59:00.002+00:002012-01-08T21:22:28.264+00:00Elvie's Return!! A Morning in Roath ParkHello again! I haven't posted on this blog for a whole year as doing a post a day on Elvie's Year was more than hard enough. Now that I'm no longer doing my 365 project I'm going to continue on this blog along with Ian. He'll probably be posting his videos. I think he's getting rather good at making very short videos that give the essence of what we're doing. I will stick to photos. My New Years Resolution is to write a post a week - that should be easier than daily! Of course I'll probably do it more often if we're away from home or having a particularly exciting time. I think a weekly schedule is reasonable for me and it means you won't get frustrated checking the blog and finding nothing there.

So what have we been up to?....Not a lot! The weather has been grey and miserable and we have been in a post Christmas slump. I've not even taken a photo for a whole week!! It seemed strange at first but quite a relief not to have to find something when there wasn't really anything that interested me. Next weekend we're going back to the Maldives on the Yasawa Princess, the same boat as two years ago, for a two week holiday. Now that is exciting but just now we seem to be marking time until we can set off.

This morning we met up with Huw, Mel and Mia in Roath Park. It was the first dry day since Christmas for Mia to try out her new roller skate. Considering she'd not rollerskated before, she did very well on them apart from the hills. The park was full of kids on new scooters, bikes etc so I think everyone was trying out their new presents. Even Mel had brought her new camera to try. She needs to get plenty of practice before the baby is born in March.....I don't think I'll suggest she does a 365...I wouldn't be very popular! Anyway it was a lovely morning, finished off with a late pub lunch in the Hungry Horse.
A good end to a very sad day.The day got off to worst possible start. The news of the the death of Our friend Sue Evans. We've known the family for years, and have known of her brave fight against cancer for some time. It's such an untimely end to a young life. We both feel so sorry for the families.

In the evening we attended Jim and Joyce's diamond wedding anniversary. It was a superb evening. Many thanks to them, and every best wish for the future. A day on the beach. We spent most of the morning sorting out car hire and accommodation for our drive from Canberra to Brisbane via the Internet. We had square eyes by the end, so we decided to treat ourselves to a swim in the sea.
Unfortunately the tide was out, so after a long walk we ended up splashing about in knee deep water. However the other attractions of the beach more than made up for our disappointment.

YouTube Video
Later on we decided to have another BBQ.

YouTube Video
Now relaxing with a chilled glass of Chardonnay.
Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-11979762686444157542011-11-15T06:25:00.001+00:002011-11-15T06:43:29.649+00:0012 th and 13 th November a night at Tangalooma Beach Resort.Again organised by Vicky as part of the weekend. We passed a very pleasant couple of hours here. The highlights were the demonstration of venomous snakes where we saw the 5 most poisonous snakes in Australia, and also the feeding of the salt water crocodiles, Mac and Mango.

YouTube Video

Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-26825142059784726622011-11-09T22:35:00.000+00:002011-11-09T22:35:50.936+00:00Wednesday 9th.Only a very short post to ask the question " why is it is so difficult to get a mobile SIM card to work? A weekend on Fraser Island.Ever since Gaz and Huw visited Australia, they have raved about Fraser Island, so Elvie and I had to pay a visit. V was good enough to make the arrangements, and we duly set off at early o'clock in our hire Landrover to gat the barge to the Island. Less than 1 hour later we were driving down very rough sandy tracks exploring the south of the island.

These guys were stuck in the sand on the beach at Dilli Village. They soon got going after dropping the tyre pressure.

Fortunately we weren't camping. The fence is to keep dingos out.
Here we are swimming in lake Benaroon, after a picnic in the woods.
This was a magnificent walk at Central Station where the centre of the logging industry was based years ago.

This is where we were based for our stay. Eurong Holiday Village. Gosh it was hard. Swimming pool, surf beach, bar, and restaurant, but as I said, someone's got to do it, so it might as well be us.

Next day we drove up the beach, which is classed as a highway, with a speed limit, enforced by police with radar guns!! Great fun driving the 40 or so clicks up to Indian Head, where legend has it Captain Cook was observed by Aborigines sat on the headland gazing out to sea.

After the obligatory photographs we headed south and stopped off at the wreck of the Maheno.

Before heading inland off the beach to Lake Allom, where we saw the turtles, before heading back to the beach and Elli Creek.

Finally back to Eurong for a well earned rest by the pool.
This is sunrise at Eurong.
This is lake Wabby. What you can't see is the lush tropical rainforest on the other side of the lake.
From here we went to Lake Mckenzie one of the most popular spots on the island.

We also saw a dingo in the car park.

It was a short drive from here to the landing stage where we caught the barge back to the mainland. A great weekend.Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-43342089084449969492011-11-01T22:00:00.000+00:002011-11-01T22:00:23.556+00:00Safe and sound in AustraliaAfter 24 hours travelling we're safely in Australia at Chez Gaz and Vicky. The flights went well. Singapore Airlines looked after us well. Attentive cabin staff, good food, and excellent in flight entertainment. Gaz met us at Brisbane airport and drove us to up Hervey Bay. Their house is modern, stylish easy to manage, and ideally placed both for Vicky's work, and for the beach. They made an excellent choice when taking this house. It's good to see them getting on so well together in their first house together.
Now after a good night sleep I'm ready for all that Hervey Bay can throw at me!!Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-909439472547845791.post-62453245437378303602011-09-29T19:04:00.001+01:002011-09-29T19:04:57.220+01:00Finally done it. Cycled from home down to the bay for lunch, and then home again. Almost 30 miles in total. We set off about 11.30 and arrived in the bay about 13.00.

We ate in the French restaurant Le Garçon. It was an excellent meal. I had a mixed meat terrine followed by chevre and beetroot tart, all washed down with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
This is the view from the restaurant.

It was so hot we had coffee inside, where the aircon was very welcome.

The cycle home wasn't too bad except for the last bit up power station hill. Now we are both extremely tired, and settled in front of the telly watching Derek predicting more fine weather for the next few days. He's broadcasting from just opposite Llandaff Rowing Club, a spot we cycled past earlier today.

Location:Cycling to the bay
Mr and Mrs Mogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619874026890207849noreply@blogger.com0
